All the time we are searching for new alternatives for Angels. For that reason we decide to make our traditional Merlot again, but this time with a little twist.
We were thrilled when Naked agreed to support us with the money to create this new wine for Angels.
Merlot always is a great wine for food pairing, fresh and smooth, but all the time we are looking for a "special touch" in this case the Malbec brings a delicious velvety texture and juicy black fruit. This blend is a perfect example of the wine that we enjoy drinking in the evenings.

With a drought looming, I had to look for growers that were better equiped for the 2015 harvest of my Western Cape Shiraz (including growers with older vineyards, the right slopes with the right amount of sunlight etc), and Angel funding made negotiations a breeze.
I decided to use vineyards from a few different areas to bring the best attributes to the wine, using grapes from Stellenbosch for the elegance and dark fruit, Elgin for the white pepper and finesse, Darling for the salt and pepper that I like in Shiraz from this region, and Wellington for earthy notes and more lush, dark fruit.
2015 was the best vintage in South Africa for the past 20 years, and all these vineyards have benefited from the vintage. The wine is mind blowing, not just because of the vines but because weather wise Mother Nature was just so good to us. I cannot express in words how proud I am of this wine. Congratulations, Angels for investing in such a beauty. Thank you from a very pleased and proud Angel funded winemaker...

Thanks to Angel funding, I was able to leave my local Cooperative and start making my own wine from my own vineyards. My family have been in the Cooperative since it started in 1913 (my grandpa planted the vineyards) so this is the beginning of a new adventure for me and my family.
The vineyards are in the small village of Tuchan on the Languedoc Roussillon border, surrounded by the natural countryside of wild herbs. The greedy wild boar munch their way through a fair amount of my grapes, and the low yields give a more concentrated style of wine. Your support gives me more time to work in the vineyard to produce a top quality wine for you without the stress of knowing where I am going to sell it.
My Corbieres is made from Carignan, Grenache and Syrah from vineyards that I have owned and worked since I was 16. Some of the vineyards I planted myself too! This is a big, full bodied, intense Corbières. It is a dry wine with spice and red fruits. There is no oak ageing, so it is packed with lovely red fruits with a touch of spice and herby flavours.

Thanks to your funding I'm able to seek out a delicious parcels of fruit in Argentina to make a top-quality Malbec for Angels.
I've tweeked the vineyards slightly based on Angel feedback, with even more premium fruit, to make what I think is an even superior wine from the last vintage. It may be bigger, but it still keeps true to my style of elegance and balance.
If you're a Malbec lover, I heartily suggest you give this a try. It's jam packed with bags of juicy red fruits, with a silky smooth finish. My advice is to decant for an hour or so before drinking it tonight alongside a big juicy steak and chunky chips. Enjoy!
