The French tractor girl proving Cabernet Franc is more than just a blending grape

Although used in classic Bordeaux blends, Cab Franc can make delicious wines in its own right. So when her parents bought the Domaine des Raguenières back in 2012, Philippine Delachaux began her mission to put the Loire’s most popular red grape back on its pedestal.
Her Cab Francs are authentic, terroir-driven wines from grapes grown exclusively in their own vineyards in the communes of Benais, Restigné and Ingrande de Touraine (the ‘garden of France’), in the heart of the Loire Valley - 18 hectares of Cabernet Franc which she transforms into delicious juicy red drops of French loveliness.
To Philippine winemaking isn’t a job, it’s her passion. “For me every day waking up and going to work is a real pleasure, because I don’t have a typical day. I might be making wine, doing paperwork, or driving tractors in the vineyards. It keeps me humble. I like the authenticity of creating terroir wines which are unique to your little plot of land.”

One of the most celebrated family wineries of the Ahr Valley

In 2021 the Ahr Valley was devastated by floods that left local winemakers on their knees and wiped out 10% of the region's vineyards. With your help, Naked raised over £50,000 to help rebuild the lives of those affected. That’s when we met Peter & Michael Kriechel.
The Kriechel family is one of the most celebrated names in the Ahr Valley. Their winemaking journey began in 1952, when Peter Kriechel Sr planted his first vines among the steep hillside plots that define this incredible wine region. Starting out with a single 1.5 hectare field, they now own and manage almost 27 hectares of grapevines around the region, all hand-picked and diligently maintained for quality over quantity.
Specialists in Spatburgunder (that’s what the Germans call Pinot Noir), Peter & Michael’s Ahr Valley wines are delicious enough to rival anything from Burgundy. They abide by a staunch regional philosophy in their winemaking - even the oak trees for their wine barrels come from their own forest on the Ahr to provide the optimal terroir for their wines.
Rudy von Strasser is a Napa legend — he played a huge part in founding the Diamond Mountain District, famous for its Cabernet. By rallying everyone in the region, he put the AVA (American Viticultural Area) on the map in 1999!
Rudy met Naked through Alex Farber — he was looking to expand his portfolio with some beautiful Petite Sirah, but didn’t have enough room in his winery.
Angel funding helped make that Petite Sirah possible. When he brought us his other wines, we knew we’d hit the jackpot! Rudy’s now able to share his wide range of Diamond Mountain District wines with Angels across the country.

Chief winemaker at one of Italy's finest co-operative wineries

In Italy’s far north, the Alto Adige region, set among the breathtaking Dolomites, is home to arguably the finest Co-Operative wineries in the world. One such example is Nals Margreid, consisting of 138 grower families all producing the highest quality grapes. And Harald Schraffl is the head winemaker who brings it all together.
A seasoned veteran who began making wine all the way back in 1997, Harald’s philosophy is to create top-quality wines that deliver the elegant, fresh and unique Alpine style that Alto Adige is famous for. One taste of his stunningly aromatic white wines and you’ll instantly see what we mean.
But of course, as a co-operative winemaker and humble guy, Harald is quick to point out that his wines are a team effort. He knows the fruit he gets to work with is some of the very best going - a testament to his 138 grape-growers - and he and his winery team’s job is simply to help these first-class grapes reach their full potential.
A former architect and great grandson of an Italian winemaker who immigrated to Uruguay in the late 1800s, Diego’s family were part of a huge wave of European grape growers who moved to Uruguay at the end of the 19th century. Many of whom brought with them their favourite grapevines, stashed safely in their luggage to be planted in the new world.
Lots of the wineries set up by those families back then are still going strong. Led by new generations like Diego. He grew up among the grapevines and - after a 4 year break to study architecture - came home to dedicate his life to the family craft. And he’s now been making wine for almost 30 years.
Uruguay is a wine region like almost no other in South America. Unlike Argentina and Chile, with their arid climates and mountainous vineyards, it’s a tiny country nuzzled up against the fierce Atlantic Ocean. The cooling coastal influences and frequent rains are perfect for producing smooth, plush styles of Uruguay’s signature grape variety - Tannat - which is the basis for many of Diego’s wines.

Simon was born and raised at the Chapelle family estate, where his ancestors have been making top-quality Burgundy for over 100 years. When most kids his age were playing with toy cars and action figures, he was already helping his mum and dad do odd jobs around the winery. It seemed only natural he would follow in their footsteps when he grew up… although he took a significant detour to get there.
A passionate musician, Simon left the family winery to pursue a career as a composer. Out in the world, he met so many people who were blown away by his Burgundy upbringing, it made him realise just how special ‘home’ really was. After 10 years in the music industry, he made ‘the biggest decision of my life’ and bowed out to return to his roots in Burgundy, carrying on the Chapelle family’s prestigious winemaking tradition.
After finally working his first proper harvest in 2015, Simon’s got into the rhythm of making truly top-notch Burgundy that lives up to the family name. He aims to work in harmony with nature and farms all his vineyards organically - to celebrate the incredible terroir of his home in the most natural way possible.
