The Montsant region is still an under-rated region in Spain, which is fortunate for me as I have access to amazingly healthy and high quality grapes for an excellent price. Thanks to Angel funding I can pay in advance for the grapes and the wine, which means no extra margin for the bank!
My Vinya Cucut is made using a hand picked selection of grapes from old vines that are on average at least 50 years old. We select the best grapes from the vineyard, which then go onto a sorting table for further selection.
Gentle extraction of the tannins after fermentation followed by a minimum of 6 months in barrel and bottle give a wonderful balance between the tannin and the spicy fruit flavours, so you end up with a mouth-watering finish each time.

And one of the worst places in the world to be a small, family winemaker was Northern Spain. For the little guys - who sell most of their stock to local bars, cafes and restaurants - the toughest lockdown in Europe has spelled disaster for their business.
Javier's Treixadura, ‘the Queen of Ribeiro’ is a soft and fruity white, with bags of delicious fresh peach, apricot and pear to its name. The fruit based roundness is tied off neatly, leaving the pallette with a grapefruit flavoured flourish. A real treat that comes complete with all the Queenly decedance the name suggests.

Marko is no stranger to making some seriously classy red wines (Margaux and Châteauneuf du Pape know him well) and this rich, flavourful blend is quite the head turner.
Vranec means ‘Black Stallion’ in North Macedonia, where it’s the most important grape in red wine production. It makes dark, powerful wines (known locally as Black Wine) and brings serious attitude to the bottle.
Full of big, bold blackberry and black plum flavours, it’s got a full-rounded mouthfeel, good power and warmth and a wallop from the rich tannins at the end. A foody wine and definitely one to enjoy with friends over dinner on a Saturday night...see if they can guess where it’s from...!
