What a 12 months it's been for our South African winemakers. Where do we start?

Think of Lionel Richie, circa mid-eighties, all decked out in his best plum velvet suit, then add a bit of Barry White on top, and you BEGIN to get close to how smooth and enticing this red is.
Your first sensation is one of deep rich blueberry that gives way to a mixture of plum and damson, edged with a smokey streak of oak - all of which lasts an age with each mouthful. It's difficult to be too in love with this wine.
Open the bottle, show a frying pan a steak, briefly, then combine in mouth. Boom!

As a Chenin Blanc and Chardonnay fanatic I thought these should be the leading components of the Angels Selection. After many days of blending and looking at possible partners for the Chenin Blanc and Chardonnay I stumbled upon this lovely third C called Colombard, the wine just lifted the already fruity nose into a new dimension.
Naked helped me fund this amazing and exciting project. If not the case, these wines would have possibly been sold in bulk and this bottle of pleasure would never have been able to reach you. Well done Naked for having a nose to smell out the best.
The Chardonnay gives this wine depth, a creamy mouthfeel and some exciting minerality, the pineapple and lovely tropical fruit come from the Chenin Blanc and the third C, Colombard just lifts the nose with citrus and a spicy edge on the finish. . . YUMMY!

I often ride my mountain bike across our neighbour’s farm, and one vineyard has always intrigued me. After some investigation I learned that it was Pinotage. Pinotage isn’t my favourite grape, but being impressed with the beautiful berries, I asked to assist in the cellar during the making of the wine. It was love at first sight...
The funding from Naked enabled me to get involved in the winemaking and also to secure this lovely wine, making it possible for me to afford production and packaging to send this lovely wine to you, Angels!
The vineyards are situated on mid-altitude foothills in Stellenbosch, planted on clay soils, which makes the wine wonderfully opulent and rich. It’s silky soft, with delicious fruit driven flavours. Wild strawberries, generous raspberries, finished with a dollop of chocolate from the oak barrels.

Kobie's first 'Angel's Selection' red, the grapes used to make this wine were bought with Angel money - which means you get it cheap as chips.

I call this my Sauvignon for grown ups! I wanted to make a more dramatic blend that brings Semillon into the spotlight. Although still Sauvignon-led, it's a step towards the style of Bordeaux white blends - it's a refreshing change from straight Sauvignon Blanc.
Like all the wines I make for Angels, this wouldn't be possible without your funding. However this wine has an extra dimension... discussions with Angels on the Naked site helped the concept for this wine to evolve. An absolute victory for having direct input and feedback without any gatekeepers!
On the nose there's a combination of lemon, white flowers and grapefruit with a lovely mineral edge. On the palate there's tongue-tingling lemon zest and grassy notes coupled with apricot and honeysuckle. It has a lively acidity balanced by a lovely richness and a long edifying finish. I hope you enjoy it!

Catoria Many Hands Red was commissioned by Naked Wines to honour the amazing two days of donations by the Angels as an aid to help learners in the schools around the Stellenbosch region.
I made this Bordeaux-style blend from Stellenbosch fruit sourced only from the Helderberg Mountain. The fruit is all handpicked at optimal ripeness resulting in a complex powerhouse of a wine.
The Many Hands Red 2016 is such an expressive wine on nose and palate. A beautiful example of BDX style of wine from South Africa - prominent dark chocolate and minty fruit expression fused with sweet spices of cinnamon and cardamom. A true keeper and a wine to show at celebrations.

The grapes Willie's used to make this wine were bought with Angel money. So of course, it's only fair you get to buy the end result at a jolly decent price. We like to think of it as a never-ending circle of back scratching.
We like to think of this as the rather good-looking lovechild of new and old world Sauvignon, with a little something for everybody. Bags of minerality, clean on the palate and fresh as a dew drop covered daisy.
An intense gooseberry kick in the finish tells you that this is a grown up, top class wine. Try a little midweek sophistication for yourself - at this price, it'd be rude not to.
