Formerly known as Breaking Grounds, his flagship Shiraz now carries a new name – but the heart of the wine hasn’t changed. It’s still sourced from two of his favourite Barossa vineyards, Hampel in Kalimna and Alkina in Greenock, where rich red soils and old vines deliver fruit of serious pedigree.
This isn’t a ‘whack you in the face’ fruit bomb, it’s pure fine wine quality. A super-classy balance of fruit and oak complexity, with decadent notes of dark cherries and blueberries with hints of clove, liquorice and mocha. It proves why Barossa is still the benchmark for Aussie Shiraz (and why Josh’s name belongs among the best).

From the Ebenezer region of the highly sought after Aussie Barossa Valley, comes this opulent and energetic red that is far from Scrooge like. In recent years Barossa has been making serious waves, and its name has become synonymous with everything there is to love about Australian wine.
It's all thanks to winemakers like Giles who, with painstaking year round care, make sure their vines are meeting standards that are out of this world. The ripeness of his grapes means everything - Giles has been studying ripening patterns for years, so you best believe the beauties contained in each bottle of the Gilo Barossa were picked not a moment too soon, or too late.
Mark our words, the difference this makes is BIG (as well as incredibly tasty). This Barossa is more balanced than 'blockbuster', with a clear brightness and refinement that reveals its elegant, textured style with each sip. When Jock agreed to make a UK exclusive comeback of his bestselling Assemblage, we could barely contain ourselves. Armed with reviews from Angels who enjoyed the last vintage, Jock could see that Angels wanted that traditional, fruit forward Aussie style with just a touch more refinement, elegance and complexity.
This Assemblage doesn’t have a vintage. That’s because this free wheeling winemaker didn’t want to stick to just one. Jock selected the best juice from two different Cab Sav and Shiraz vintages grown in his premium McLaren Vale vineyards, to create the ultimate blend Angels were after.
The Shiraz is silky and vibrant with its bright, juicy fruit - plums, damsons, blackcurrants - and a good twist of black pepper. The Cab Sav brings a much deeper, belly warming quality to the table with brambly complexity, a rich seam of dark chocolate and a smoky oaked finish. Pass this one around at the BBQ but be sure to keep a bottle in the wings to enjoy all to yourself later.
