South Africa may have come late to the Shiraz ball, but it's played catch up quickly, and now produces some of the best in the world. This one, with its dark, rich plum fruit punch and smokey oaky, peppery finish is a delicious example.
Punchy, explosive and with all the weight of a dozen half-backs, the only way to improve this wine is to drink it with a bit of cow that has been briefly shown the grill. A meat-eater's idea of heaven in a glass.

I had been making wine for other people in Rueda (an 8 hour round trip from where I live Aragón) for years so I finally decided to make one for myself.
I have been fined on numerous occasions by the Guardia Civil for driving a little bit too quickly on this journey. La Multa means the fine in Spanish, it is my way of getting a little bit back of the cash I have paid to the Spanish authorities during my long, driving winemaking hours on the road
I deliberately went out to make a style that is a little bit more reserved and complex than most Spanish Verdejos'. The wine has more mouthfeel, less acidity and a long mineral finish. A great match with goats cheese salads, shellfish, seafood.
