A great introduction to one of the best kept secrets in Spain
- One of my favourite parts of Spain is the area surrounding the town of Bullas in the south east. The soils there are similar to the southern Rhone, and the altitude of some of the vineyards means that there are significant differences in the day and night temperature - perfect for growing Monastrell.
- Bullas is such an unknown area that Ray (Naked's Wine Nut) had never tasted a wine from this nook of Spain before, but he was immediately smitten by the distinct taste, and told me that the power, elegance and complexity reminded him of what you might find in a Châteauneuf-du-Pape, which as comparisons go is a great one to hear!
- My Old Vine Monastrell comes from extremely small yield vines, which with the climate give a great concentration of fruit, with an excellent deep red colour and a hint of spice and chocolate amongst the cherry and plum flavours. It's a great introduction to one of the best kept secrets in Spain, and a perfect wine to drink by itself, or with a variety of different dishes.

Serve at 16-18°C. Open/Decant 15 minutes before serving
Food match
Rice based Murcian dishes ( moister than Valencian paellas) with more meat base - chicken, rabbit.
Also great with bbq food - lamb chops, duck and grilled vegetables. Also fantastic with grilled hard cheeses and pisto
Ideally serve 16 to 18 degrees.
