Mischief and Mayhem Bourgogne Rouge 2021
About the wine
Smooth and silky pinot noir from a selection of mega-premium Burgundian parcels
- Our Bourgogne Rouge is the only red wine that we produce and is sourced from a number of very special vineyard parcels. It’s 100% pinot noir, and we used fruit from the Côte Chalonnaise, Mercurey and Rully, and slightly richer fruit from the Côte de Nuits, bringing some serious power to the wine.
- Fruit is of course key, and given the climate and even vintage conditions in 2021, the profile is full of bright raspberries, cranberries and redcurrants rather than more brooding, darker flavours of blackberries and blackcurrants. It is wonderfully soft with supple tannins and good length.
- We don’t think of this as our ‘house’ red, as in many ways it is the most complex of our wines to produce. That said, it is one of the easiest wines to approach when young - it’s extremely easy-drinking and moreish right off the bat.

Serving advice
Serve at room temperature. As it's a lighter bodied red, it can be chilled for drinking in the warm summer months (especially if drinking outside) - this keeps everything fresh. As the wine comes up to temperature it will continue to open up.
Food match
The wine pairs extremely well with tuna and salmon, or if you're looking for a Burgundian speciality, pair with pork paté, rabbit terrine, paté en croute, or roast veal.

Meet the winemaker - Michael and Fiona Ragg
-
The Raggs have been producing super-posh Burgundy kit since 2004, when they first crossed the channel to turn this famous French region into their home away from home.
-
Burgundy is one of the most celebrated yet traditional wine regions on the planet, which can make it very tough for outsiders like Michael and Fiona to break through. But having started from square one, they’ve now grown their Mischief and Mayhem winery into a fully-fledged Domaine with some of the finest Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in the world. They're practically honorary French at this point.
-
While the locals might scratch their heads at some of the new and exotic approaches this English pair take in the vineyard, one thing they definitely recognise is the quality of the wines they’re making - it’s truly artisan, hand-crafted, world-class stuff.
