Spaghetti Carbonara: Keep it classy with a creamy Chardonnay, the ultimate partner for that indulgent sauce. Daryl Groom's Reserve Alexander Valley Chardonnay fits the bill perfectly. And to finish off...

Chocolate Fondant: End on a sweet note with a silky Ruby Port – like a hug in a glass which will take the chocolate to another level. Oscar Quevedo's Ruby Port is perfect to pair with any indulgent dessert. Red fruits shine through, think of cherries, raspberries and redcurrants with a hint of plum too.

Love, grapes and happily ever afters

Read the winemaking love stories from couples who’ve mastered the perfect blend – in wine and in life.

Adrian and Rebecca Santolin

12 years ago, Adrian and Rebecca Santolin were at a crossroads, trying to cobble together a living making hand-crafted wines with only one small tank, a barrel, and a few barrow-loads of fruit. A sensible couple would have quit and bought a house. But Adrian and Rebecca had a dream, so they got Naked. As you do.

With Angel funding, they moved to the Yarra Valley, where big corporations dominate the best grapes. But thanks to your support (you’re a star), they could pay growers upfront and secure top-notch fruit to craft their artisan wines.

Fast forward to today: Three kids and a bunch of awards later, the couple is behind some of Australia’s most delicious wines.

Small and Small

Bill and Claudia Small

Winemaking is a family affair for the Smalls who run a small winery in Marlborough, New Zealand – making iconic Sauvignon Blancs with Angel support.

“We met while studying wine at the University of Adelaide. Claudia is trained in viticulture, and myself in winemaking. Claudia nurtures the vines to ensure the perfect fruit, and then I get to turn that fruit into superb wine.

The only things we really need are a coffee at the start of the day, a beer at the end and plenty of jokes in between. It’s a good life!”, Bill says.

Núria Altés and Rafael de Haan

15 years ago, Rafael de Haan was working in Spain, reconnecting with his roots and selling Spanish wine to clients in California. One of those wines came from a winery run by Núria Altés.

Let’s just say that when Rafael needed samples, he had the perfect excuse to keep asking for more – after all, the wines were great and so was the winemaker. Eventually, they decided to meet in person to hand over the next batch. The setting? Not a vineyard, not a candlelit restaurant, but a petrol station. Because nothing says romance like the glow of fluorescent lights and the scent of unleaded.

Today, Núria and Rafael are still making incredible wines – together. Proof that great wine really does bring people together, even in the most unexpected places.
