About the wine
The smooth French red that says it better than flowers (and with a box of chocolates)
-
After a gentle nudge (read: years of persuasion) from his wife Magda, your French star Virgile finally decided to make her favourite grape, Marselan, the star of the show.
-
First bred in 1961 near Marseillan – the small town on the Mediterranean where Virgile makes many of his wines – it’s a smooth French red bursting with ripe red fruits (think strawberries, cherries and cranberries), figs and a hint of floral violets and spice.
-
Delicious with rich comfort foods. For peak festive bliss, serve it with a big slab of chocolatey yule log. It’s the kind of wine that makes the holidays feel just that little bit cosier.

Wine profile
Meet the winemaker - Virgile Joly
- Virgile Joly is almost annoyingly perfect. He's ultra organic, with the certificates to prove it. Dashingly good looking, with a beautiful wife, Magda, (who fell in love with him after one harvest). Stupidly talented with wine, he has glowing reviews from the doyenne of wine writing, Jancis Robinson.
- Plus he's not afraid of hard work. He bottled his first vintage himself. 3,000 bottles, Virgile and a funnel. Now that's dedication!
- 10 years later, he's producing some of the Languedoc's most sought after wines and we're using Angel funding to help him expand his winery and go on to even greater things. Plus his surname brings a smile to our face every time we see it - what's not to like!
