Sam Plunkett Forest Hut Vineyard Shiraz 2021
Market Price
To show you the value you're getting as an Angel...
We regularly benchmark a selection of our wines against up to three comparable wines on the market. The Market Price is based on the price of those wines.
What do we mean by benchmark? We taste them blind against our own wines, or we use our market knowledge (over 40 years between us) to set an industry standard Market Price.
If you buy one of our wines and disagree with the Market Price, or it's not your cup of tea, we'll add a credit to your account. For more info, see our FAQS.

About the wine
The man who made 'Australia's Best Shiraz' just keeps getting better... Sam's outdone himself
- Sam has thrown the kitchen sink at his newest Shiraz and it’s all thanks to you. He’s crafted it using rare fruit and fancy kit that most winemakers down under are chomping at the bit to get their hands on.
- Forest Hut is a very special vineyard. Its vines have long roots that reach all the way down to the water table, saving the gorgeous fruit from falling prey to the scorching heat of Australian summer. Sam says it’s the best fruit he’s ever worked with and he’s so excited for you to get a taste.
- But first you’ll want to get your beak into the glass to take in all the beautiful aromas of sweet violets and ripe plums. It’s a true sensation on the palate – fresh and vibrant, pure and precise with a zippy touch of acidity. Sam’s outdone himself this time.

Food match
This is a good red meat wine. It has a smokeyness from its time in new oak barrels, making this a great match for char-grilled steak, particularly if there is some hickory or other wood thrown on the coals at the same time as the steak.
Contains sulphites
Wine profile
Meet the winemaker - Sam Plunkett
- Legend is a word we sometimes overuse, but in Sam's case, it's true. Over in Oz he’s regarded as one of their greatest living winemakers. Getting on for a thousand medals and trophies to his name, including the daddy of them all – the Best Shiraz in Australia Trophy at the 2010 Great Australian Shiraz Challenge.
- Yet if you met him, you’d probably mistake him for the gardener. He’s one of the most down-to-earth, approachable blokes you’ll ever meet. He wears a beat-up old hat and drives a beat-up old pick up, and when he’s not in the vineyard, you’re likely to find him up a ladder with a wrench in his hand.
- From being in a pretty sticky situation back in 2011 when he was unexpectedly bought-out by his business partner, Sam has just achieved his lifetime dream; he’s converted an old textile factory into his very own gleaming high-tech winery and it’s all thanks to Angel funding!
