About the wine
Granddad knew best: impossibly steep Douro vines make one utterly delicious red
-
The Douro Valley is famous for Port, but winemakers like Oscar Quevedo prove their dry reds are just as spectacular. Grown on insanely steep, rocky mountain terraces, these dry-farmed vines have to seriously struggle – which means concentrated, unputdownable flavour in your glass.
-
This is a deeply personal wine for Oscar, crafted from 1980s vines planted by his grandfather. He blends native Portuguese stars Tinta Roriz (Tempranillo) and Touriga Franca, ageing them for 18 months in French oak barrels to build elegance and depth.
-
Expect a powerhouse of dark berries, black pepper, and clove. The palate is bursting with red and black fruits, with a velvety texture and a lingering finish. Oscar recommends pairing it with local oven-roasted kid goat, but a slow-roasted leg of lamb will do the trick perfectly.
