Olakala Malagouzia Assyrtiko White 2022
About the wine
This fresh and fruity Greek white is the very picture of a Mediterranean summer sipper
-
As a passionate champion of his country’s local grape varieties, Nikos chose to celebrate two authentically Greek grapes for his first mouthwatering Olakala White - a fresh and fruity blend of Malagouzia and Assyrtiko made with his growers’ very best grapes.
-
Malagouzia is a highly aromatic grape that was actually thought extinct 40 years ago, but has been making a booming comeback in recent years as growers recognised its great versatility and exotic flavours. While Assyrtiko - native to Santorini - is famous in Greece for its beautiful minerality and salty profile.
-
A refreshing white wine that’s made for summer, on the nose you get vibrant and enticing melon aromas which follow through juicily on the palate, with lots of fresh pears and a smidge of mandarin citrus. As Nikos says, this wine offers you ‘a breeze of Greece’. Just close your eyes, take a sip, and picture yourself on a sun-baked beach in the middle of the Greek isles. This is what paradise tastes like.

Wine profile
Meet the winemaker - Nikos Karatzas
- Nikos cut his teeth in one of the world epicentres for winemaking, Bordeaux, learning the tricks of the trade as a budding Oenologist before returning to his Greek homeland to roll up his sleeves and put his skills to practice.
- In that same year, Oenops Wines was founded and Nikos was quick to learn how he wanted his winemaking vision to take shape. He spent 24 hours of his first harvest destemming grapes by hand to make sure not an ounce of flavour was lost - that's how much quality means to Nikos.
- He works in immense detail in the vineyard and the winery with indigenous varieties from diverse Greek regions, to bring you authentic, elegant and super delicious wines that will transport you to Greece with one sip.
