About the wine
This elegant French fizz was tickling tastebuds before Champagne was even invented
-
A family dedicated to their craft, the Gazeaus have been making premium sparkling wines in Limoux for 7 generations. But the prestigious history of this wine, and this southern-French region, goes back a lot further than that…
-
Long before Champagne became the capital of French fizz, Blanquette de Limoux was the very first sparkling white wine created in France, way back in 1531. And if you’re a fan of its more famous cousin, you should definitely give these sparkles a try, it’s Champers-quality at a fraction of the price.
-
Made using the traditional local grape Mauzac, it’s an elegant, easy-drinking style of bubbly with delicious aromas of lemon citrus, white almonds and apple crumble that follow through on the palate in a clean, fresh finish. A perfect wine for celebrations big and small. All we can say is ‘Merci beaucoup, Francoise and Baptiste’.

Serving advice
Serve thoroughly chilled at 7-8°C
Food match
It goes perfectly well with Asian food, grilled fish or chicken, but my recommendation would be to drink it on its own as an aperitif.

Wine profile
Meet the winemaker - Francoise and Baptiste Gazeau
- The Gazeaus come from Limoux, a small town in the foothills of the Pyrenees mountains, with Françoise following in her father's footsteps and Baptiste following in hers. Growing up with the hustle and bustle of a busy harvest comes second nature to them.
- Even though both left Limoux after finishing school - Françoise to work for L'Oréal in Paris, and Baptiste to travel the world - both were inevitably drawn back to the vineyards of their childhoods.
- Françoise is a seasoned pro who made her first vintage back in '96, and Baptiste has travelled the winemaking world over, visiting over 800 estates in 25 countries, tasting around 10,000 wines in the process. Together they make fabulous sparkling wines exclusively in Limoux - the birthplace of sparkling wine (take that Champagne).
