Kissingate Brewery started life at our private address in Crawley. After years of hobby brewing and dreaming about starting a business of our own we decided to tentatively give it a go. It was not easy to obtain all the necessary permissions to brew commercially from home, albiet on a very small scale. There were a few unforseen obstacles to overcome, including obtaining necessary planning permissions. We brewed our first test batch of 'Old Tale' Porter on 23rd September 2009. It was a day to remember and feel grateful for all the help we received from family, friends and suppliers. In April 2010 we were officially registered as a commercial brewery and with planning consent and other permissions granted we began the Kissingate journey. After just a few months brewing from home we found ourselves running out of space so we decided to seek premises elsewhere. In September 2010 we were lucky enough to find a suitable industrial unit on a small farm estate near Horsham. In February 2012 we moved again into our present brewery premises; The Pole Barn. We are eternally grateful to the Slade family Bernard, Julien and Claire for sharing our visions and for building us a fantastic brewery.
