Hewitt's brewery was founded in the dying days of 2010. After many many years of drinking real ale, the founders felt that they had possibly consumed more than their fair share of good beer over the years and that it was time to put something back, by adding to the beer pool in quantities that they could not themselves conceivably take back out. Thus a historical imbalance may be righted, but the truth is that due to the quantities historically consumed, it may still not be possible to put into the beer pool quantities to rival what has already been taken out, and so it has been our mission from the outset to produce beer of the very highest quality, such that quality might in some small way pay down some of the debt of quantity left outstanding. This underlying moral purpose influences all aspects of our business, from an abhorrence of slave labour (or internship as it is latterly known), through educational outreach (talking to people in pubs about the virtues of real ale), and on to community outreach (ashamedly also largely consisting of talking to people in pubs, but we mean well). Looking to the future it is our stated purpose to do ever more of the above, and possibly something more socially useful if we have the time. So drink Hewitt's beer and know that you too are contributing albeit in a small way to the moral purpose of the universe.
