Add even more local flavour to your Peak District holiday by tasting our real ales, brewed on site at the Haywood Bad Ram' Brewery. Our Dr Samuel Johnson ale won a Gold Medal at the prestigious UK Beer Festival in 2003, but you may want to sample them all to judge for yourself!Campsite 285 Interestingly, our current brewery was not the first to produce ale at this location. The Callow Inn was previously a drover's inn, in the days that the local farmers would walk their livestock to the market town of Ashbourne. Ale was produced then with malted barley, before hops were introduced to the recipes for the beer and ales we know today. Campsite 220Over the years the brewery has become a real asset to Callow Top Holiday Park. Established in 2002, Alan Palmer and his son Robert keep the operation running smoothly. They have trained in the art of brewing, led ably by Steve Wellington, the head-brewer at Coors (formerly Bass) Museum Brewery, Burton upon Trent. Steve composed the recipe for our award-winning ale, Dr Samuel Johnson, which continues to generate interest in the Bad Ram' brand name. Both this ale, and Callow Top IPA, have been included in 2010's influential CAMRA Best Bottled Beers Guide'. They are brewed throughout the year and are permanently on sale at the Callow Inn, Arnold's Café Bar and the Callow Top shop. We also see regular demand from several local outlets. A selection of our ales can be purchased by the case, or for parties in cask condition. We are able to provide a portable bar with traditional hand pump/s included in the cask price if you wish.
