Oliver's Army

Springhead Brewery

Specialties & Hybrids ABV 4.40%

Colour: Ruby Tasting notes: A ruby red beer with a fruity malty aroma and a creamy head. Background: Oliver's Army was a loose band of anti-royalists/protestants who banded together under Cromwell. It was too early to call them democrats but they joined together against the King protesting at the lack of his accountability to Parliament. Elvis Costello's song Oliver's Army was written about the group and recorded in 1979 and became the most successful single of his career. Food matching: It's smooth malty taste make it an ideal match for sweet and fruity dishes like pork pie with apple or even enjoy a pint with maple syrup pancakes - probably not for breakfast though!!
