UPCOMING RESCUE DEALS
France Rescue Case
Help struggling winemakers and get delicious wine in return
In return for throwing a lifeline to talented winemakers who need a helping hand, lots of exciting parcels of wine will be coming your way.
We’ve made $5 million available to help struggling wineries to survive and come out the other side of this crisis
The closure of bars and restaurants across the globe has been a disaster for the independent winemakers who supply them. The little guys, without connections to the big supermarkets, are the ones who are suffering the most.
Orders dried up completely, leaving them with a lake of unsold wine. And with little government help available in lots of countries, many were in real danger of going bust. So we’ve pledged $5m to help the best of the independent winemakers who’ve been affected by this crisis.
Check out the wines you've rescued...
Winemakers you've helped so far
French winemakers
- Small-scale artisan winemakers in France are going through their toughest year in living memory. These guys rely on bars and restaurants, wine fairs and tourism to sell their wines, so they’ve really struggled. Millions of bottles of wine are stuck in cellars, going nowhere.
- With bills mounting, and the need to clear space for this year’s vintage, many winemakers are resorting to selling their wines in bulk to the government for a pittance, to turn them into hand sanitiser. That’s why we’ve decided to help.
- 3,000 Angels played a part in helping France’s little winemakers stay in business in return for a one-off case of restaurant-quality wines from some of the most talented artisan winemakers in France.
Marta Ramas & Miguel Fisac
- Marta Ramas and Miguel Fisac had every reason to be optimistic about 2020. Sales were up, the awards and critic scores were piling in. Then Covid came along, and changed everything.
- The top restaurants who proudly stocked their wines all closed overnight. The winery was on the verge of closing down and selling Marta and Miguel’s lovingly handcrafted wines in bulk.Their wines were so good, we knew we had to find a way to save them.
- With your help we’ve rescued a third of their annual production. 1,400 Angels helped this young Spanish winemaking couple in need and saved 24% on a 6-pack of their wow-factor wines.
South African Winemakers
- South Africa’s lockdown has been one of the strictest in the world - with a total ban on alcohol sales. Their second total lockdown - where all wine sales were banned immediately - has left the industry on its knees.
- For a country with wine at its heart, it's been a huge blow. And for small winemakers, it's been totally devastating. With no end date to the ban, and nowhere to sell their wines, they're stuck between a rock and a hard place.
- The best way we can support them is by drinking their wines. 2,000 Angels threw 6 talented and deserving South African winemakers an urgent lifeline in return for a case of their seriously delicious South African hidden gem wines.
Ray’s Restaurant Rescue
- Following the extended restaurant closures during lockdown, the wine importers who supply UK restaurants were sitting on a mountain of unsold wine they’d already paid for.
- These guys are a massive part of the wine industry ecosystem. If they go out of business, a butterfly effect ripples all the way back to the winemakers, who are ultimately on the hook.
- We wanted to help them out of a sticky spot. So Ray, our resident Wine Nut has put together a 6-pack of seriously top-notch restaurant wines. 2,307 Angels snapped one up - lending a big hand to these UK wine suppliers.
Reenen Borman
- Reenen Borman is one of the rising stars of the South African wine scene. Tim Atkin once called him “one of the most talented young winemakers in the world”.
- When Covid hit, South Africa’s strict lockdown dealt a huge blow to Reenen's small family winery. They previously sold 90% of their wine to restaurants and bars around the world - so the sudden global closures hit them hard.
- Reenen turned to us, and in one single order we rescued half of his winery’s annual production. It's been a total game changer for Reenen’s small business.
Northern Spanish Winemakers
- One of the worst places in the world to be a small, family winemaker right now is Northern Spain. For the little guys - who sell most of their stock to local bars, cafes and restaurants - the toughest lockdown in Europe spelled disaster for their business.
- We wanted to help as many of them as quickly as we can, so we put together a selection of wines from a group of talented artisans, including Oscar Aragon, Xavier Iturria, Javier González and Sandra Cortes.
- 2,800 Angels got their hands on a case - and made a big difference to the livelihood of 4 small family winemakers in Northern Spain.
Jennifer Buck
- California girl Jennifer was living the rural French winemaking dream with her husband Didier in the tiny village of Douzens. They've spent the last 20 years making delicious rustic wines from their family-run organic winery.
- Since Covid hit, it’s been devastating for their small business. Their main customers, a handful of US importers, put their orders on hold indefinitely. And their other main channel, a weekly farmers’ market, has ground to a halt for the past 3 months.
- 1,200 Angels got their hands on a 6-pack of wines that would never have made it to UK shores before. Jennifer is so grateful for the support.
Nuria Altés and Rafael de Haan
- Nuria and Rafael, from the Terra Alta region of Spain, were the exact kind of people we were hoping to help with our Covid-19 support fund.
- The events of the past couple of months have hit their business hard. The top-end restaurants, hotels and bars that were their main customers have been closed. Leaving them with a lot of unsold wine.
- 3,000 Angels bought a case of their delicious Spanish wines - and they’ve made a real difference to the future of their business.
We couldn’t do any of this without your custom and loyalty , so thank you.
